Hello, I had the pleasure to get 3 day head start to play the new MMORPG Guild Wars 2 and to my expectations the game really is unique to the MMORPG genre. Unlike World of Warcraft, Perfect World, Fly for fun, Maple Story, etc Guild Wars 2 has totally self reliant classes meaning there are no set roles in the game. Everyone can tank, heal, DPS (Damage Points Per Second), etc which means you don't have to wait for groups. You can literally can play this game by yourself or just run into people doing the same mission as you.
During my short play of the game because of unfortunate weather conditions I was happy to partake in a new game/story mechanic called "Dynamic Event", so what does this new mechanic mean? Well it means while your adventuring you can run into a scenario where you can experience a mini short story and progresses until the story or task is finished. To explain this better here was a dynamic event that I've encountered in a random area in the game. A Sylvari(a race in the game) NPC was struggling with torching zombies, suddenly giant ribs start to cage everyone in the area and there was a 2 second cinematic for it. It really made you feel like you were doing something worth doing and not just doing a droll task. This happened everywhere I went and each event takes about 5-30 minutes depending on how long each dynamic event takes. There can be 3 or four parts to a dynamic event that leads you through the area which forces you to explore and adventure through out that small part of the map.
More on combat, story, art, etc in the next blog!
